Things to know about 5G network testing for telecommunications and information technology terminals

First, you need to know what is 5G network? Why is 5G network developing so rapidly and strongly?

New innovations like self-driving cars, “internet of things” (IoT) and virtual reality are driving the next paradigm shift, and 5G will bring exponential improvements in bandwidth and reduced latency to support these advances.

Nowadays, people demand the best performance when it comes to wireless technology. With the new advancements of 5G enabling speeds up to 100 times faster than existing cellular connections and latency in the 1 millisecond range, 5G will even surpass the current capabilities of physical fiber.

How has Dt&C VINA been preparing for this 5G network test?

To support a successful transition, 5G testing measures are being developed and refined to ensure the consistent 5G performance demanded by end users. The tools, software, protocols, and integrated practices required for all stages of 5G deployment form the core of the emerging 5G testing field.

The 5G test isn't just about verifying lightning-fast download speeds, ultra-low latency, and extended coverage. 5G testing has become a key determinant of 5G potential. The experimental solutions quickly adapted to complex use cases and overall architectural advancements that included core, transport, RAN, and fiber network elements all at once. This requires advanced simulation and verification technology in a scalable 5G test lab for a full 5G deployment in the field.

Therefore, the team of experts and engineers of Dt&C VINA have been intensively trained in 5G to be able to quickly adapt to this remarkable change, and at the same time to meet the market demand in the future. and abroad for the production, import and export of equipment using 5G networks. Dt&C VINA's 5G lab facilities are also underway and will be operational soon.

What technical regulations does the 5G network in Vietnam need to comply with?

All devices using 5G networks need to be certified for compliance before being put on the market. However, in fact, although mandatory technical regulations have been issued for 5G since July 1, 2022, so far, only a few organizations and individuals have been certified as conformity for 5G. Although the import demand for 5G or 5G NR equipment is very large, the quantity is still very limited and the certification processing time is longer than usual.

Pursuant to Circular 04/2023/TT-BTTTT dated May 31, 2023 of the Minister of Information and Communications providing the list of products and goods potentially unsafe chemicals under the management responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Communications, in order to remove difficulties and obstacles and create conditions for organizations and individuals to carry out regulation conformity certification and announcement, the Ministry of Information Information and Communication guides the use of test/test results as follows:

  • For 5G mobile communication network terminals and base stations, organizations and individuals may use test/test results of domestic and foreign laboratories recognized in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 for certification and announcement of conformity according to national technical regulations QCVN 18:2022/BTTTT.
  • For 5G mobile communication base station equipment, organizations and individuals are allowed to use test/test results of domestic and foreign laboratories recognized in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 or of the manufacturer for certification and announcement of conformity according to national technical regulations QCVN 128:2021/BTTTT (technical requirements according to 3GPP TS 38.104 v15.12.0/ETSI TS 138 104 v15.12.0 or later version) and measurement method according to 3GPP TS 38.141-1 v16.6.0/ETSI TS 138 141-1 v16.6.0, 3GPP TS 38.141-2 v16.6.0/ETSI TS 138 141-2 v16.6.0 or later; only for with the performance requirements in section 2.4 of QCVN 128:2021/BTTTT, use the manufacturer's test/test results according to ITU-R M.2410-0).
  • For independent 5G mobile communication network terminals, organizations and individuals are allowed to use test/test results of domestic and foreign laboratories recognized in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 or of the manufacturer for certification and announcement of conformity according to national technical regulations QCVN 127:2021/BTTTT (technical requirements according to 3GPP TS 38.101-1 v16.7.0/ETSI TS 138 101-1 v16 .7.0 or later and/or 3GPP TS 38.101-2 v16.6.0/ETSI TS 138 101-2 v16.6.0 or later; and 3GPP TS 38.521-1 v16.6.0/ETSI TS measurement method 138 521-1 v16.6.0 or later and/or 3GPP TS 38.521-2 v16.5.0/ETSI TS 138 521-2 v16.5.0 or later - minimum test/test results with tests are validated by the Global Certification Forum (GCF). For stand-alone 5G mobile phone equipment, all bands n1, n3, n28, n41 must be met; particularly for bands n77, n78, organizations and individuals make a written commitment to compliance or readiness to activate as soon as the planning of these bands is approved.
  • For hybrid 5G mobile communication network terminals, organizations and individuals are allowed to use test/test results of domestic and foreign laboratories recognized in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 or of the manufacturer for certification and announcement of conformity according to national technical regulations QCVN 129:2021/BTTTT (technical requirements according to 3GPP TS 38.101-3 v16.8.0/ETSI TS 138 101-3 v16 .8.0 or later version; and measurement method according to 3GPP TS 38.521-3 v16.8.0/ETSI TS 138 521-3 v16.8.0 or later - minimum test/test results with measurements try to be authenticated by GCF). Organizations and individuals are only allowed to use measurement/test results of domestic and foreign laboratories recognized in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 or manufacturers for certification and announcement of conformity with regulations. according to QCVN 129:2021/BTTTT (specification according to 3GPP TS 38.101-3 v16. 3.0/ETSI TS 138 101-3 v16.3.0 or later; and measurement method according to 3GPP TS 38.521-3 v16.3.0 /ETSI TS 138 521-3 v16.3.0 or later - at least test/test results with GCF validated tests) for broadcast hybrid 5G mobile communication network terminal released/provided to the market before January 1, 2022 when there is a written commitment that the equipment will operate normally for 5G services provided in Vietnam. For hybrid 5G mobile phone equipment, all combination sets of bands must be met (except for combinations DC_1_41, DC_28_41); particularly with the combined frequency bands related to n77, n78, organizations and individuals make a written commitment to compliance or the ability to be ready to activate as soon as the planning of these bands is approved.
